Clubhouse Needs Permanent Rooms
Clubhouse would be better if it removed clubs and made rooms permanent. By permanent rooms, I mean rooms that can stick around even after everyone leaves.
Permanents rooms would serve the function of what clubs are currently trying to do.
Nobody knows what a club is. Nobody makes the connection between a room where they had a great experience and the club associated (is that the right word?) with that room.
People know exactly what rooms are. They’re tangible. They’ve spent hours in them.
If people can go back to the same place where they previously had a “magical” conversation, they will be more confident of having another great conversation. They will be more willing to risk their time.
Permanent rooms can build up their reputation. When rooms have a reputation, people will actually pay attention to the upcoming schedule.
Permanent rooms unlock async functionality. They could let people post voice messages in the room, have a chat room, make previously recorded conversations available, or whatever async content makes sense. It would give me a reason to come back.
Permanent rooms are easier to discover. I can browse a room (whether a conversation is happening or not), check out some of the content posted, and get a feel for it. Then I can save it for later.
Clubhouse discovered a powerful way to enable human conversations. People say it’s dying. I hope not. I hope they keep trying new things.
